Brian has had a lot of pain in his arm for about 2-3 months. It was gradually getting worse and we thought initially that it was muscle pain. Maybe caused by the pain patches or just not moving around much. We brought it up casually to the Dr. in September but he didn't think anything of it and didn't have any suggestions.
Well after we returned home it seemed to get worse. Especially after the Zomeda infusion Brian received in Illinois. Brian called the Care Manager assigned to him in Illinois and suggested muscle relaxers to help. Well... They didn't help at all. Brian was still in a lot of pain. He couldn't lift anything with his right arm and couldn't write with it either. I didn't realize just how bad the pain was. So on Thursday he decided he would go to the ER to see if they could help to manage the pain and figure out what was causing it.
It was a fruitful trip. They took Brian to ultrasound and found a large blood clot. Very scary. They admitted him and started him on a blood thinner right away. He now has to give himself shots at home. He is holding off on continuing this round of Chemo until he can reach the Dr. in Illinois to find out if he can do both blood thinners and Chemo as both can affect his blood counts.
Brian is feeling much better after leaving the hospital. He is glad he went as now he knows what was going on, but he hated staying there. I wasn't fond of the stay either. I don't like being home here alone.

Be sure to pay attention to muscle pains that seem to be getting worse and not better. Muscle pain from activity should be ok... You all know I'm not a Dr., but if it isn't getting better or going away in a few days, then a visit to a Dr. should be warranted. Blood Clots are not something you want to procrastinate with. They can kill you and faster than Cancer.
